We are a Community Church located in Gaston, South Carolina and seek to bear an authentic witness of Christ in word and deed - preaching the whole Gospel for the whole person. Our mission statement can be summed up as follows: exalt the Lord, equip the believer, and evangelize the lost.
To equip the congregation with Biblical and theological training (work of the vision/lead pastor) and provide the congregation with practical resources (work of the deacons) that would enable ‘holistic’ growth resulting in community transformation.

The very first meeting of the present Hillcrest Church was held in the home of Mr. Vernon & Mrs. Helene Sharpe in the summer of 1955. Mr. Charlie Lucas Sr. and his wife Anna donated four acres of land for the current church site and Mr. N.B. Mack gave approximately half an acre for road frontage. During the first couple of years the 28-35 charter members experienced several significant and difficult challenges. With the assistance of the Lexington Baptist Association, the church constituted as Eastside Baptist Church on March 3, 1956, and then shortly thereafter changed name to Hillcrest Church. The first sermon was delivered by Rev. B.I. Epting, a beloved pastor among the churches in the Lexington Baptist Association. During her 65 years, the church has been shepherded by twelve pastors. Currently, the pastor of Hillcrest Church is Rev. Steve McGee who was called into service at the church in February 2013.
The purpose of the church is to teach and to preach the Word of God in regular and special services. It is our desire as a church to exalt the Lord, to equip the believer and to evangelize the lost. We are further dedicated to the world-wide proclamation of God’s saving grace expressed in the shed blood and finished work of the Lord Jesus Christ on the cross, according to the Scriptures (current church Constitution & Bylaws). Her history is represented with six decades of ministry in the Gaston community. Under the leadership of Rev. McGee community evangelism has included a focus on the physical and spiritual needs of people. Ministries such as addiction recovery, a food co-op and a thrift store have been started in recent years.
The church is committed to faithfully fulfill the Great Commission of Jesus Christ to “Go, make disciples of all nations…” (Matthew 28:18).
